See Chiang Rai's highlights on a one day tour from Chiang Mai. Amongst other sights you will see Wat Rong Khun (White Temple), The Golden Triangle, meeting point of Laos, Thailand and Myanmar and will have the option to see Karen Long Neck hill tribe. |
TOUR DESCRIPTION
On departure from Chiang Mai we will head north toward the province of Chiang Rai. The first stop of the day will be at Mae Kha Jan Hot Springs where we will take a break from the driving. Here you can take a moment to boil an egg or dip your feet in the hot spring water. Next we will drive to Wat Rong Khun, a stunning white temple masterpiece which is still a work in progress after nearly 15 years. After Wat Rong Khun we will proceed for a further 30 minutes by vehicle to a contrasting collection of buildings called Baan Dam, Baan Dam is a collection of temple like buildings housing an eclectic range of artifacts collected and produced by local artist Thawan Duchanee. Following Baan Dam we will make our way to Chiang Saen where we will board the boat to take a trip up the Mekong River. The boat will travel to the Laos side where you can make a quick stop and have a look around the small tourist market here. The boat will proceed to the the Golden Triangle, this is the point where the three countries (Thailand, Myanmar and Laos) meet at the Mekong River. At the Golden Triangle you can take some time to enjoy the view of the Mekong and the three counties which are visible from this point . Lunch will be taken by the Mekong River before heading up to Mae Sai the border town on the Thai Myanmar border, here you can visit the border market on the Thai side. On the return to Chiang Mai you can take the option of seeing the Karen Long Neck hill tribe. (also residing next to the Long Neck are a small group of Akha hill tribe. This long day will finish when you are transferred back to your Chiang Mai hotel around 8:00pm. |

Groups
This tour is conducted as a privately escorted tour only you will be supplied with your own tour guide and private vehicle . Sorry there are no group departures for this programme.

For 1-2 persons transport will be a modern comfortable air-conditioned car or minibus

Transfer
This tour includes transfer to and from your Chiang Mai Hotel. Please be ready and waiting in the lobby of your hotel before the pick up time specified on your booking confirmation.
Please specify your hotel and its address on the booking form. If you do not have a hotel booked we can still process your booking but please inform us of your hotel at least 3 days prior to departure. For private tours we can arrange transfers to and from all hotels (an extra charge will usually be incurred for outlying hotels). If there are any issues with your specified hotel we will inform you before we ask for payment and process your booking.
Accommodation
This is a full day tour and no accommodation is provided. Blugecko can arrange your Chiang Mai hotel if required
Guides
This tour is conducted with an English speaking guide. The guides will be TAT licensed (Tourist Authority of Thailand)
Insurance
A limited amount of accident insurance is provided to cover some medical bills in case of an injury but it is advised that you have your own comprehensive accident insurance.
Crossing to Laos
If you take the option of crossing to
Laos a passport is now required however you will not be required to go through any immigration formalities and your current visa will be unaffected.
Dress Codes and what to wear
• The Northern Thailand climate is hot all year round. Wear light, cool clothes: Shorts (or long pants if you prefer), T shirt and a sun hat are ideal attire.
• On this tour you will be visiting Buddhist temples, respectful and neat dress is always appreciated at temples, please wear knee length shorts and a shirt which covers your shoulders
• Please be prepared for the occasional shower, luckily in Chiang Mai rainfall is mostly confined to short showers rather than prolonged rainfall. A lightweight easily packable raincoat is an ideal precaution
• No swim wear is required on this tour
Fitness
Exertion levels are light on this tour with a few short walks between attractions. There are steps and slopes
Meals
This is a full day tour and lunch is provided. Vegetarians can be catered for
Tipping
There is no compulsory tipping. Tipping is at your own discretion and choice, but if you felt that you were served by the guide and driver well during your trip any extra income is gratefully received.
