CGDT05 Early Morning Alms Giving - with Doi Suthep

no video

1,000 - 3,050

An early start will be essential as you will need to be up and about with the city's monks as them make their way around their localities collect alms. The alms giving will be followed with a trip to Doi Suthep Temple.

An early start will be required as we will need to be up and about with the city monks on their alms rounds around the city. After pick up at your hotel by the guide we will travel by local transport to the local market where we will purchase some suitable items for the monk's offerings. We will then be transported the short distance to one of the many city temples where you will have the opportunity in joining the alms giving to the monks. The monks rely on the the alms for their basic food needs and in return the alms giver gets a blessing from the monk. Following the alms giving it will be time to make our way up the mountain to the west of Chiang Mai. About one third of the way up we will stop at a viewpoint which allows great views over the city of Chiang Mai. Our next stop will be at the base of Doi Suthep temple. Most visitors will make the final stretch up to the temple by the 304 stepped naga stairway but if you are unable to take the steps then there is a funicular rail car to take you the 200meters or so to the temple. The central feature of the temple is its large golden Pagoda, the temple grounds are usually very busy with Thais making merit and paying their respects to Buddha but our early morning visit should miss the busiest time of the day. From the temple vantage point you can get some great views over the city of Chiang Mai and to the distant mountains beyond. Following the temple visit we will take the drive back down the mountain and transfer you back to your Chiang Mai hotel in time for breakfast!! .
